Schmalenbach’s project by Poggenpohl CZ, Prague castle view apartment, Czech has been awarded the German Design Award Winner of 2024 in the Interior Architecture category. The German Design Council selected the winners of 2024. following a meticulous evaluation by an esteemed international jury. A total of 65 Gold awards were presented in the Excellent Product Design, Excellent Communications Design and Excellent Architecture disciplines.
This award winning interior was realised in a newly built apartment facing Prague Castle. Thanks to this position and view, the project was characterized by a large number of windows and glass walls. Respecting the apartment’s original layout was vital during the interior design process.
The owners’ aspiration was to fashion a tranquil retreat, providing them with a serene spot to unwind while enjoying a drink and the captivating Prague scenery. They sought to create a harmonious interior, seamlessly connecting every element. This resulted in a consistent and elegant color scheme gracing each room, characterised by soothing shades of beige and brown with subtle accent colours. Adorned with finishes of smoked oak veneer and sand gray melamine, the bedroom, living room, and hallway contribute to the apartment’s cohesive aesthetic.
“With the German Design Award, we are creating far more than just a showcase for design achievements,” emphasises Lutz Dietzold, CEO of the German Design Council. “We are increasingly recognising the need to put the design discourse at the forefront: Global developments, sustainability and circular design, digitalisation and AI, as well as ideas for a more social, fairer society are topics that have a place with us.”
